One of the most rampant and dangerous issues in the AI space is well-intentioned builders and entrepreneurs who claim to offer “sovereign” AI, while not living up to that standard to even the slightest degree.
A recent example is a service claiming to be sovereign, end-to-end encrypted, and that poses it will never sell your data.

Not only do we disagree with how people have been using this tool for intimate spiritual insights which should never be consulted through any machine regardless of where it lives, but the claim of sovereignty is inappropriate in every sense of the word in this regard.
This is not the only instance we have seen this issue. Everyone wants to make money by riding AI narratives, few people actually build something with integrity. The rule of thumb is simple. Read it carefully:
It does not matter how clean the marketing and branding, it does not matter what words they use about privacy, encryption, not selling your data, or sovereignty. If you do not own a purpose-built AI machine in your physical location, it is nearly a guarantee that your data is landing in someone else’s server room.
Most downstream service providers merely depend on upstream cloud providers in order to give you specialized service. They do not own the technology or the servers whatsoever, despite providing the illusion that they do.
If it would no longer work without an internet connection, it is an absolute guarantee that your data is leaving your room.
