You're going to see a wave of "privacy" AI tools. Swiss-tech with servers located in Europe. Free services that don't train on your data. They will look genuinely good.
And they are not fundamentally bad, however you must understand that no matter how polished and how clean they are on paper: one fundemantal fact remains... If you don't own the machine yourself, your data is still going to a remote box thousands of miles away from you.
It does not matter if the data is end-to-end encrypted. It does not matter if the servers are located in Switzerland, Iceland, or some other privacy respecting jurisdiction. None of this matters if you are prioritizing genuine ownership and self-hosted AI, and keeping data under your roof. No one elses.
The reality is that you are holding your data in a different "safer" datacenter instead of one owned by a major cloud corporation like Meta, Anthropic, OpenAI, or similar.
Your data is private in these cases until something changes.
Whether it's the risk of hacks on data center infrastructure, a government influencing a provider to share information or change policy, or a company getting acquired and you never seeing what changes in the privacy policy — your data is fully outside of your own domain.
The best company on Earth holding your data does not change the fact that someone else is holding it.
